Today was another typical day for a tourist in London. Tour the Tower of London, see the Crown Jewels, ride the Hop On Hop Off, go to Harrod's, visit a museum, and eat a typical English lunch. The weather was fantastic, around 73 degrees, no rain. Tomorrow will be warmer.
We started off with the Tower of London. Saw where Ann Bolyn and others met an early death. Saw the Crown Jewels. I was fascinated by the Royal Salt Spoon that all the royalty seem to be fond of. We don't have a salt spoon at my house, we use a salt shaker. We took a tour with a Yeoman Warder. I think they had other duties in the old days, but now they take care of a bunch of crows and tell bad jokes to the tourists. I thought one was kind of funny. He asked if there were any Americans in the group and please raise your hand. Several did. The Warder said that on behalf of the Queen of England, they were welcomed back home.
When we talk to anyone over here, they ask if we are from Texas. We had lunch and then Linda and Mary Ann went to Buckingham Palace and Harrod's. Jerry and I went to Scotland Yard and toured the Law Enforcement Museum. It is restricted to active and retired law enforcement officers. If you are here, don't pass on this opportunity.
After our tour, Jerry and I walked to the Imperial War Museum. We will tour it tomorrow. Then we went back to the Thames River and walked along the river, back to our hotel. Hankins' saw a bridge in front of us and was very happy. He thought we were almost there. He thought it was the Tower Bridge. I did not think it was the right time to tell him we had 4 more bridges to pass. He had a pedometer on and when we got back to the hotel, we had logged 26,000 steps. He complained all the way back. He wanted to take the bus. I just wish I had a recording.
