Our final night in Paris came to a close...on to Normandy. Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Point Du Hoc..await us. We left our hotel and took the bus to Gare St. Lazare and caught a non stop to Caen. Picked up a rental car at Avis and headed for Grandcamp Maisy. Home of the Maisey Battery. A German battery used against the Americans on D-Day.
While on the train to Caen, at about 110 mph, we met another train and Mary Ann let out a loud "whoop". She said it wasn't a scream..but others had a different opinion. This happened on more than one occasion. The train brake on Mary Ann's side did not work very well.
Hankins was very concerned. He spent his time admiring the French countryside. After we arrived in Normandy, we had a great lunch at a local restaurant, La Maree by the sea. It was raining and very chilly. We stopped at an ATM so Hankins could get some additional Euro's. While we were stopped and waiting on him, a car came up behind us and I had to move. All streets past that point were "one way". So we left Jerry at the ATM and drove out of town in the opposite direction and had a great tour until we could circle back to pick up Jerry. Great fun.
Before it got dark, we drove to the German Cemetery, Point Du Hoc, and the Maisey Battery. Hankins cooked us a delightful Italian meal of frozen pizza at the house we rented and after reflecting on the days' events, we turned in, anxiously looking forward to tomorrow's adventures.
